About Llerena

There’s been a flood of cracking tapas bars in London this past decade but few can boast an experienced Andalucian chef like Llerena in Islington. Hailing from scorching Malaga, the Central London Iberian favourite’s chef has over 10 years’ experience back in his homeland and has assembled a mindboggling array of stunningly authentic Spanish small plates. Come rain or shine this cosy eatery is always serving up shiny happy plates of food all hailing from Extremadura in the west of Spain. With specialities as rugged and rustic as the region they hail from, this cosy cantina has been attracting a legion of loyal diners (not to mention awards!) in the short time it has been operating.

The service was very attentive, friendly and the overall atmosphere was great. A nice restaurant in Islington. The food was ok. Just ok. A "regional" starter, composed of some pickles you might as well by from Sainsbury's down this road is not exactly what I'm looking for when dining out. The food was missing taste and ideas, it was ok, but way below my expectations. I was hoping a nice glass of wine would make up for the slightly fad food, but unfortunately the bottle was already open for a day too many. Still drinkable, but already beginning to deteriorate. Lost potential.

Wonderful experience in a proper traditional Spanish tapas bar. I went there for my birthday on a Friday night with friends. We were sit in a nice big table where we could celebrate it with amazing wine and great selection of cocktails and gin and tonics. The food is traditional but different from every other tabas bar I’ve been to, great choice between tapas, cold cuts, ham and steak meat, with gluten free and vegetarian options as well. The staff was lovely and the place fancy and traditional at the same time. I would really recommend the place for special occasions but also for a date or just a dinner wit friends or family. Great experience with a more than reasonable price!

Highly recommended. Not the risk typical Spanish bar in the UK, but a genuine place at affordable prices.
